Born in 1894, Abdallah Chahine Sr. discovered his passion for music at a very young age when his father offered him a harmonium that revealed his exceptional talent for oriental music.

During his childhood, he played the harmonium for many years at the St. Joseph's Church in Beirut, where the priest noticed his talent and recommended that Chahine pursues a musical career at the Vienna's Music School. Circumstances back then were unfavorable and Chahine ended up as a piano technician, getting much fame all over Lebanon and Syria.

With his sons, and particularly his eldest Joseph, he founded a company and opened a music store in Beirut’s City Center in 1949. Joseph was one of the first Lebanese music producers; he discovered the new talents of the fifties, such as Fairouz, Sabah, Wadih El Safi and Nasri Chamseddine, who all became famous and whose records were distributed by his company.

In the meantime, Abdallah Chahine was designing an acoustic piano to play oriental music with quarter tones.

The first prototype was manufactured by the Hoffman's factory in Vienna.

Upon receiving the first manufactured model, he made a famous recording with piano solo oriental which improvisations are still available on CD.

The store of the city center was totally destroyed during the civil war of Lebanon; consequently, the company moved to other locations, one of which was inaugurated in 1996 - the largest music store in the region - offering a wide variety of occidental and oriental musical instruments.

Chahine s.a.l., formerly known as A. Chahine & Fils, is one of the biggest distributor of musical instruments and accessories in the region, offering exclusive international brands, such as Fender, Hohner, Jackson, Kawai, Mapex, Ovation, Paiste, Pearl, Petrof, Roland, Samick, Wittner, to name a few.

Today Chahine s.a.l., is at its third generation of family business; the company is managed by Abdallah Chahine Jr. – who also runs a record production company under the "Voix de l'Orient" label, promoting the Lebanese musical heritage worldwide.
